System 6 General information:
System 6 is a two part brushable/rollable urethane coating commonly used to protect inflatable rafts from abrasion, adding floor chafers, and doing custom lettering. Bright color options can be great for revitalizing an old, faded, boat. System 6 is not intended to patch leaks in inflatables, but can be applied over patches. Patches can also be applied over System 6 coating. Use proper PPE such as respirators and gloves to avoid inhaling fumes and skin contact.
System 6 instructions
Prep: Clean and dry the project area. If old adhesives are present, a solvent such as MEK or toluene can be used, but should be applied sparingly. For hypalon and urethane, use an abrasive wheel or sandpaper to lightly rough the area that is being coated. For detailed work, stensils or masking tape can be used.
Primer: Primers are used when applying System 6 to urethane or hypalon materials. PVC does not require a primer. Apply primer with a natural brush or paper towel. Let dry for 5-10 minutes. Urethane and hypalon primers are unique and need to match the material of the project. When covering pre-existing system 6, urethane primer used.
Application: System 6 is applied using either a brush or a roller. First, add pigment to part A and mix thoroughly. Next, add part B and accelerator to part A and mix thoroughly. If the resulting mixture is too thin, wait 10-15 minutes for it to thicken. Wait 15-20 minutes between coats, remove masking tape or stencils about 30 minutes after final coat. If System 6 dries completely is will need urethane primer applied before additional coats are applied.
Coverage: Rolled coats are approximately 4-6 mils thick. A Quart Kit will cover approximately 12 square feet at 10-20 mils (2-3 coats), 6 square feet at 30-40 mils (5-6 coats).
